Can management and leadership influence the success of a sporting organization? Yes! We tend to associate performance management with athlete performance. However, there is a need to develop an understanding of how performance management at the organizational level can drive success for sports teams.

This research study goes beyond merely the characteristics of effective leaders to exploring how they create, optimize, and maintain a high performance environment. The author derived best practices for leading and managing high-performance teams at elite levels by studying the work of 13 National Performance Directors (NPDs) of Olympic sports. In this study, the author found 4 key variables as key to leading and managing Olympic teams. These were - the development of a vision, the management of operations, the leadership of people, and the creation of a culture.

See how each of these variables can influence sports performance, and how you can apply them to your work!
